ChatGPT is an AI assistant made by OpenAI. Once you connect it to your 4aGoodCause account, you can ask ChatGPT questions about your donations, donors, recurring gifts, campaigns, and more, and it answers using your 4aGC data. ChatGPT can also turn what it finds into something useful, like a thank-you letter, a board summary, or a list of donors to call.
Before you start
Enable AI assistant connections in 4aGoodCause. An account admin must turn this on first. Follow our guide: Allow AI assistant connections in 4aGoodCause.
Create a ChatGPT account if you don’t have one. Go to chatgpt.com, click Sign up, and follow the prompts. If your organization already uses ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu, ask your ChatGPT workspace admin to invite you to its existing workspace.
Use a supported ChatGPT plan. You’ll need Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu. Pro supports read/fetch access, which is sufficient for 4aGoodCause’s read-only connection. If you created a free account, upgrade to a supported plan before continuing. See ChatGPT pricing.
Check your workspace permissions. On ChatGPT Business, an admin or owner must add the connection. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also authorize selected members to create connections. Ask your ChatGPT workspace admin for help if needed.
Use ChatGPT in your web browser. Custom MCP connections are currently web-only. Sign in at chatgpt.com.
Review your privacy settings. Follow the Protect your donor data section below before connecting your account.
Protect your donor data
Before connecting 4aGoodCause, review how your ChatGPT account handles conversations and fundraising data.
ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu
OpenAI does not use inputs or outputs from these workspaces to train its models by default. You don’t need to change a training setting. Make sure you’re using your organization’s workspace when working with 4aGoodCause data.
ChatGPT Pro or another personal plan
On personal plans, including Free, Plus, and Pro, model training is enabled by default. Before connecting 4aGoodCause, check that it is turned off:
In ChatGPT, open your profile or account menu.
Click Settings.
Click Data Controls.
Turn off Improve the model for everyone. Click Done if shown.
After you turn this off, new conversations won’t be used to train OpenAI’s models. This setting applies across devices, and your conversations can still appear in your chat history.
On personal plans, avoid submitting thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback on conversations containing donor data. OpenAI says the entire conversation associated with feedback may be used for training, even after you have opted out.
Turning off model training does not delete your conversations or turn off Memory. Follow your organization’s policies for storing and sharing donor information.

Using ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu?
Your ChatGPT workspace permissions determine who can add the connection. In Business workspaces, an admin or owner must create it. Enterprise and Edu admins can also give selected members permission to create connections. If you don’t see Add custom MCP server, ask your ChatGPT workspace admin for help.
Step 3: Start asking questions
Open a new chat, type @, and select 4aGoodCause. Then ask a question, such as:
“Which donors gave last year but haven’t given yet this year?”
You can then ask ChatGPT to turn the results into something useful—for example, “Draft a fundraising appeal for these donors.”
When a follow-up needs fresh information from your account, mention @4aGoodCause again.
